The play between freshly picked berries and citrus give us the best of both worlds, a deeper flavoured rosé but also fresh and bright! The impeccable balance between ripe and juicy is partnered with a moderate acidity and a body presence that is just more than expected. The extra weight on the palate also lends to the bolder personality of the wine. An accent of minerality gives a slickness to the mouthfeel too, providing a smooth and subtle texture to transport all the raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, and lemon/orange zest.

From one of the great AVAs, the 2013 Rosenblum Cellars Rockpile Road Vineyard Zinfandel packs a truckload of berries on the palate. Medium to full bodied, this a superb choice with barbecued pork ribs. Drinks well now.

The power and grace of the Rockpile Road Zinfandel is a culmination of its unique climate, soil, and pedigree. Bold, dark fruit, redolent with blueberries and boysenberry jam, shapes the core and establishes the masculine, mountain character of this high-elevation Zinfandel. Black pepper, cocoa, and toasted oak spices weave through the multiple layers, joined by big, chewy tannins.

2017 Four Vines “The Biker” Zinfandel- Paso Robles, California, USA 91 PTS Wine Enthusiast

(88% Zinfandel, 12% Petite Syrah)

The 2017 vintage is just a good as it has ever been!

Smashed strawberries and blackberries make for a fruit jubilee on the nose of this fairly priced bottling, which also shows hints of fennel frond. It’s much drier on the palate, where alpine-strawberry-sorbet flavors meet with subtle parsley and licorice elements.

Black cherry and spicy aromas lead to an elegant palate of wild blackberry and plum flavors bolstered by a touch of black pepper and sweet, toasted oak. The 2017 offers a plush mouthfeel and a long, velvety finish.

 2016 Runquist 1448-California

Sometimes there’s too much good fruit to go around. After production needs are met for their single vineyard wines, Runquist assembles the best lots together to make the 1448 “house” cuvée, named after the winery’s elevation in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The exact blend varies from vintage to vintage (depending on the whims of Mother Nature) but is typically based on Petite Sirah (about half) with smaller portions of Tannat, Barbera, Petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Carignane, and Sangiovese  + other estate grown varietals. The objective is a rich, fruit-driven, food-friendly wine meant to be enjoyed with good food and company.

The “1448” has a deep dark color that clings to the inside of the wine glass. The hues are bright and youthful, with an edge of magenta. The aromas lead with blue and black fruits, most notably black raspberry, along with blackberry and mulberry. The bouquet features sweet vanilla, hazelnut, violets and lavender. The flavors are succulent and juicy, with plenty of ripe fruit framed by a toasted oak creaminess. The tannins are mature and add richness and texture to a finish that is free of drying astringency.
