Fattoria San Francesco

San Francesco is a young winery, yet their vineyards have been producing grapes since the 15th century.

As the toe of Italy’s boot and closer in proximity to Sicily than any other mainland Italian region, Calabria holds much much in common with the island by way of climate, landscape and agriculture. Calabria’s principal red grape, Gaglioppo, is also a close relative of Sicily’s famous Nerello Mascalese.

Cirò, Calabria’s most valuable appellation, covers gently sloped hills on the Ionian Sea coast. Its wines are based on the indigenous red, Gaglioppo, and can be made as single varietal wines or blended with Cabernet or Merlot.

100% Greco Bianco

Crisp and refreshing, but still quite complex and creamy on the palate. Lots of tropical fruit, peach, exotic fruit and jasmine. Fantastic with seafood or on its own

Can easily handle Calabria’s spicy food – and in fact go further afield (try it with fish tacos or ceviche). Calabria’s answer to Albariño.

100% Gaglioppo

A William’s favourite for it’s lovely deep colour and sleek red berry vinosity. Rich, yet smooth and some mature tannic bite on the finish keeping it from coming across too sweet. A rosé of character! Round and very suitable for risotto and gnocci.

2018 Domaine Houchart Rose-Provence, France

METHOD

This Cote de Provence rose is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The grapes grow on clay and limestone soils formed from the decomposition of the mother rock from the surrounding mountains. This rose is made by direct pressing, with cold maceration lasting 12-24 hours.  All varieties are fermented separately in tanks for 12 to 24 days at 18 degrees Celsius.

TASTING NOTES 

Houchart Rosé has delicate citrus and strawberry aromas that carry onto the palate and develop into flavours of field berries, watermelon and mineral notes. A quintessential provencal rose that is clean and refreshing.  Enjoy as an aperitif with smoked salmon, charcuterie, salads and sun-drenched summer afternoons.

2019 Summerhill Alive Rose- Okanagan, BC, Canada

78.5% Cabernet Franc,15.5% Pinot Noir, 6% Pinot Meunier

The Alive Rose was produced using the saignee method from the juice of predominately Cabernet Franc.  It is a pretty orange-pink colour with notes of raspberry, and lime. The residual sugar and acidity make for a bright and refreshing wine that has a medium finish that pairs perfectly with summer bbq and hot sunny days.

Yalumba The Scribbler is a youthful embodiment of its beloved older sibling The Signature, sharing the same bloodline, pedigree and winemaking expertise. Showcasing the Barossa, The Scribbler is an elegant, complex and bright wine that is designed to drink now but can also be cellared for medium term enjoyment.

Dense crimson purple in color with a very appealing nose, displaying excellent concentration of dark fruits, spices, licorice and black olives. The palate is silky and elegant, tasting of sweet black currants and blueberries.

Aromatically this wine is all about the Cabernet Sauvignon. It is very defined, expressive and opens with ripe, floral aromatics, red currants, cedar and dark purple plums. The Shiraz shines through in the palate which is quite rich and dense with an inky plummy juiciness. Serious tannins flow long to the finish and are quite earthy. For drinking now and over the next 10 years.

Enjoy with thick cut, charry lamb chops, cooked rare, or serve alongside a platter of roasted vegetables: eggplant, corn, capsicum, zucchini and mushrooms.
