2016 Angove Family Crest Shiraz-McLaren Vale, Australia

JAMES HALLIDAY’S BEST VALUE WINE – DECEMBER 2017 – 91 POINTS “McLaren Vale shiraz from mature vines across a range of vineyards. All fermented as whole berries before being basket-pressed to mostly older French oak. It’s a supple shiraz with plum and blackberry notes melting effortless into smoky, cedary oak. It sits at the upper end of medium weight which, combined with its slinky softness, makes for effortless drinking.”

Q-WINE – STEVE LESZCZYNSKI – 06.09.17 – 90 POINTS “The Family Crest label has taken on a face lift and gee I like it. The crest is still the centre piece with an addition of fi ve dots above it referring to the fi ve generations. A pick and shovel link to the family’s mining past. Clever. Good drinking Shiraz too to cap it off . Sourced from Blewiti Springs, Seaview, Willunga and Sellicks Hill. The youngest contributing vines are 20 years old with the oldest 50+. Solid McLaren Vale Shiraz in show chocolate, raspberry and dark berry fruit. Oak plays its hand without strangling the fruit. It’s smooth with a peppery finish whipping in the tail.”

WINEFRONT – MIKE BENNIE – 30.08.17 – 90 POINTS “Fruit to the fore, a lick of cedary/chocolatey oak, a softness to the texture. It gives people what they want, no questions asked, no needless fi nessin’. Weight of fl avour here is adequate without being anything to write home about, but it gets the job done. Price, style, texture and delivery of flavour here are all right in the slot.”

2017 J. Wilkes Cabernet Sauvignon-Paso Robles-California

93 pts-Steve Richmond & William Bincoletto

Med to deep purple w/ magenta rim. Great balance, well integrated alcohol (can’t tell it’s 14%), it is fruit fwd, but not jammy. Good acidity and length. Full body, M+ tannins and M acidity. Nose: Lots of dark fruit and blueberry notes, maraschino cherry, vanilla and oak. Palate: Tart black cherry and red cherry on the front, anise, tobacco and oak mid, w/ a long dark espresso finish.

2018 Frescobaldi “Alié” Rosé-IGT Toscana  91 pts-William Bincoletto

(syrah, vermentino)

Alìe 2018 stands out for its extreme sensuality. Its pale pink colour with peach nuances immediately expresses its intriguing personality. The sharp and unmistakable bouquet floods the senses with intoxicating Mediterranean aromas that meld with the fragrances of fresh and ripe fruit. September peach bursts forth followed by floral notes with subtle scents of rose. The result is an extremely mellow, fine and elegant nose. In the mouth, the fruity notes return, with the addition of captivating touches of citrus such as pink grapefruit. Little by little, a tangy undertone elegantly makes its entrance into this whirlwind of flavour sensations. Alìe 2018 is full, silky and deep, with an after-taste that explodes in a succession of fresh and persistent aromas.

2018 Old Soul Chardonnay, Lodi California

Good clarity and focus help this full-bodied wine stand out. It has vivid fresh pear and apple flavors generously shaded by toasted oak and butter notes that are well integrated and not overdone.  This Chardonnay is succulent and crisp. Flavors of pear, tropical fruit and pineapple add to this bright varietal. Floral notes create a well-balanced wine with a full body.

90pts- William Bincoletto

2018 Borsao Rosé

This crisp and lush Rosé from the Campo de Borja DO in northeastern Spain is 100% Garnacha. Like its red and white companions, this rosé is fermented in stainless steel and sees no oak aging, preserving the vibrantly youthful characteristics of the fruit.

Very easy drinking rose, yet pretty good for the price range. Hints of red cherry, grapes, nectarine, delicate palate and good balance.

90pts-William Bincoletto
